At first glance, Sunday’s defeat doesn’t look so bad. After all, it was only 19-17 and the Broncos were in it all the way until the end. Sounds nice, right? Too bad it’s all bullshit. I mentioned it yesterday and I’ll mention it again today:
The loss to the Texans just might be one of the worst losses of the Vance Joseph era, and it’s certainly the final nail in his coffin.
The first came before halftime, when Joseph opted for a 62-yard field goal attempt, an act of pure madness and idiocy, especially given his kicker’s accuracy at that range. Added bonus: Bill O’Brien appearing to call Vance a “dumb fuck” or “fucking idiot” on the sidelines.
The second came at the end of the game, with Vance forgoing additional attempts at gaining yardage, instead opting for a 51-yard field goal, which Brandon McManus missed.
With the Broncos heading into their bye week, this loss is going to metastasize like a cancer and spread to everyone on the team, and I don’t care what the players are saying on the podium to make it seem like they still care.
The fact that both sides of the ball were trying as hard as they could to win the game, but still couldn’t pull it off. That’s completely demoralizing—and not just for them, either. The coaching staff is most likely despondent too.
Brandon McManus’ confidence is probably in the toilet.
Seriously, they need to ship him out at the end of the season. He’s been tainted by failure.
Don’t kid yourself: these are very dark days for the Denver Broncos…darker than even the 2010 season, in my opinion. And I haven’t even gotten into the battle for control of the Broncos that is brewing.
Hate to say it, but John Elway and Vance Joseph have turned the Broncos into Cleveland West.
